E10 - Hålogaland auxiliary structures

The project envisions a comprehensive mobility experience for travellers, particularly focusing on a new highway road stretch in Hålogaland, Northern Norway, spanning 100 km from Sortland to Harstad. This modernization initiative, part of a Public-Private Partnership contract, addresses increased traffic volumes and new safety requirements in challenging mountainous terrain.

The proposal includes 8 connecting junctures featuring resting areas, checkpoints, heavy-duty control stations, vista points, and tourist information centres for regional traffic transits. Additionally, new transit hubs for regional bus routes will be established at pivotal junctures, along with 6 new bridge connections and 7 tunnel crossings.

At the project's core is a creative approach leveraging design and architecture as mediators between mobility, people, and the vast natural landscapes. The design concept revolves around modular, prefabricated auxiliary structures—standalone pavilions or clusters—providing shelter for various purposes like car parking, charging stations, transit hubs, and vista points. This approach aims to harmonize functionality, visual aesthetics, and cultural integration within the expansive natural surroundings.
